The Five Squeeze Songs I Would Take To My Desert Island

One of the most under-rated aspects of Paul McCartney career as a musician and songwriter is his proficiency on the bass guitar. From the simple root notes of many early Beatles tracks to the adventurism typical of much of their late-60's output, McCartney's influence on the instrument was to prove far-reaching. It helped to dispel the image held by many fledgling pop groups that the poor soul who ended up on bass was only there because he/she was the worst guitarist.

Lame! New X Men: First Class Poster!

Good lord! Hopefully this isn't an indication of the quality of the actual flick!
Check out the pretty awful one-sheet for the upcoming prequel to the X-Men franchise, X-Men: First Class (above)!
We don't get these posters - why put characters on them if they're so far away that you can't even figure out who the [...]

prince-william-cant-see-the-dress-before-the-wedding.jpg

Isn't that how it works for all grooms? There's that old saying that you can't see the bride in her wedding dress until the actual wedding or its bad luck. So, why should the future King of England be the exception to the rule???

According to palace officials, Prince William and his brother, Harry, will not be two of the nearly two billion TV watchers poised to watch Kate Middleton journey from the Goring Hotel to Westminster Abbey on their wedding day. When the procession starts, William and Harry will be taken away for a few minutes of peace in a tiny chapel on the grounds, away from all the hoopla and spectacle. It'll be the quietest moment of the last few months for him, we imagine.

As for Kate, her long ride through London will have her passing by thousands of spectators who will be lining the street on April 29th. As Kate wishes to keep the name of her designer a secret, mostly from her soon-to-be husband, it won't be until she arrives at the Abbey that the world will learn who is behind arguably the most anticipated piece of fashion to date.

Someone cue up Carly Simon! We're having trouble with all this keeping us waaaaaaaiting!

Isla Fisher Joining Cast Of The Great Gatsby

Finally! We've missed her so much!
Isla Fisher, who played the HIGHlariously horny love of Vince Vaughn's life in Wedding Crashers, is in negotiations for another high profile film, The Great Gatsby.
If this goes through, the actress will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and maybe even Ben Affleck!
Could this cast get any better? [...]

What a stellar accomplishment!

Though Prince Harry couldn't be with them when they reached the summit (he climbed with them for four days before flying back to England to prepare for his brother's wedding), his team reached the North Pole over the weekend - and we've got video of their amazing journey to the top of the world.

Check out the report from Good Morning America, featuring the brave men of the Walking With The Wounded charity, as they reach the North Pole (after the jump)!

There's also a bit of Harry talking about his brother's soon-to-be bride!

Choosing Oscar Nominees and Winners

I've written these two articles to give you some basic and intermediate tips to correctly color balance your photos during a wedding. As I stated in the other article, a wedding has many light sources and these light sources compete to be the main light in your photos. The problem is, if these light sources have very different color temperatures, your images will have an incorrect white balance.

History of the NAACP Image Awards

The Academy Award of Merit, or the Oscar Statuette, designed to symbolize film achievement, is constructed of gold-plated britannium on a black metal base, stands at over a foot tall, and weighs eight and a half pounds. It is designed as an Art Deco styled knight poised with a sword in hand, standing upon a film reel with five spokes, each of which symbolize the original five branches of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Producers, Directors, Writers, Actors, and Technicians. (Now the Academy is divided into fifteen branches: actors, directors, cinematographers, producers, executives, writers, art directors, musicians, sound, visual effects, make up artists and hairstylists, public relations, documentary, feature animation, and short film.)

Did Kobe Bryant Direct Gay Slur At Ref? (VIDEO)

A video supposedly showing Kobe Bryant’s gay slur infused pout fest Tuesday night is plowing its way through the Interwebs today. Though audio of his exact words is not present in the clip, it doesn’t take a lip reading expert to piece this one together. The LA Laker’s star, who is no stranger to bad press, has worked his way back into the news cycle, this time for some childish antics aimed at an NBA official. The incident began when Kobe appeared to heckle referee Bennie Adams while in the middle of game play. As the Spurs began to move the ball across the center line, Bryant jogged his way over to cover his man. You can visibly see him flailing his arms around as he faced Adams, who was standing just out of bounds. Adams apparently had enough and called him on a technical foul. Rather than walk over and take a seat like any multimillionaire athlete should, Kobe put on a hilariously immature display, throwing towels and even pounding on the back of his seat. After fuming for a few seconds, the champ decided to offer a few words for the ref. TMZ reported this morning that he [...]

Calling It Christian

Roses are one the primary gifts given all around the globe. They have been associated with love as well as war. There is even a war called "The War of the Roses" which was fought in England in the 1400's, but most associate the plant with the symbol of love. This idea goes back to 500 B.C. where Venus, the goddess of love, was associated with the plant and it was her sister, the goddess of flowers, who create the Rose.

All About The 7 Elements Of Music

What seems most noticeable about the beautiful African music is that it relies heavily on percussion materials, especially on the African drums. One can also notice and appreciate the intense, upbeat and fast-paced rhythmic style used in playing the African drums. This style of playing these special instruments is most especially evident among the various tribes in Africa.

Has your son or daughter shown any desire to play a musical instrument? If they have then I would wager that you will have decided that a guitar is probably the best option and now you are wondering "what is the best guitar for beginners?" The Best Way To Easily Create Killer Hip Hop Beats

The general feeling with electric players is that stainless steel frets can give a completely new dimension to ease of playing; therefore why shouldn't the same be applicable to the acoustic guitar? Stainless steel fret replacement is a reasonably common modification that is made to electric and electro-acoustic guitars, but the practice of refitting an acoustic guitar with stainless steel frets is a pretty rare occurrence, by all accounts.

At last, at last … Mariah Carey gave birth AT LAST! Congratulations are in order for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon because at just after 9AM PT (12PM ET), she gave birth to the couples first children — a boy and a girl. The twins were born today which just so happens to also be the Mr. & Mrs. Cannon‘s 4 year wedding anniversary … which is just too perfect for words. Read below for all the deets courtesy of People magazine!!

April 30 is double the pleasure for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Not only did they welcome twins, but the couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary, too! Carey, 41, delivered the babies Saturday at 12:07 p.m. EDT at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches. And it was just as Cannon predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.” Berger says they were listening to Carey’s “We Belong Together” after the children were born … As for the origin of their babies’ names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. “They won’t be crazy names like Carburetor or something,” he promised. “But they’re definitely unique.”

OMG … it’s about damn time! What a truly special day for Mimi and Nick. Not only are they celebrating the birth of their twin children today but they are also celebrating the 4 year anniversary of their marriage. April 30 will truly be one of the most important days in the couple’s lives … for all time! I can’t wait to hear more deets about the twins’ birth — including their names — but I think we’ll have to wait a bit to get that info. For now, let’s just send all of our love and congrats to the happy NEWLY EXPANDED family! May they live very long and very happy lives together!!! Wee!!

Kylie Minogue Kicks Off Her Aphrodite Live 2011′ Tour Here In The US

After touring Europe and Japan, Kylie Minogue has brought her world tour to the US last night and officially kicked off Aphrodite Live 2011 in Boston, MA. Because her US tour isn’t as extravagant as her European tour (ie. no Splash Zone), I was worried what the “stripped down” version of the show would look [...]

Last night was my second of three Prince concerts this week and I am happy to report that last night’s show was just as amazing as Thursday night’s show. As I say all the time, no two Prince concerts are ever the same. There something different in the Prince was feeling last night that gave the show an entirely different feel. I attended last night’s show at The Forum in Inglewood, CA with my good friends Angie and Ollie. With my O(+> tambourine in hand, we made our way to one of the funkiest concerts I’ve ever seen.

Obviously the vantage point from our seats last night was different than our much closer seats from Thursday night but we had a blast nonetheless. There really is NOT a bad seat in The Forum so I have no cause for complaint. Ollie and Angie were just as excited for the show as I was and we all danced and sang the night away. Here is the setlist from last night’s show:

Let’s Go Crazy

Delirious

1999

Shhh

Mountains

17 Days

Lovergirl (Teena Marie cover)

Give It To Me Baby (Rick James cover)

Everyday People

Play That Funky Music

Glamorous Life (Sheila E performance)

Santana Medley: Jungle Strut / Soul Sacrifice / Toussaint L’Overture

The Question Of U

The One

Gingerbread Man

Take Me With U

Raspberry Beret

Cream

Cool (with Bass Jam instrumental)

Let’s Work

U Got The Look

Encore 1:

Make U Feel My Love

Purple Rain

Encore 2:

Kiss

A Love Bizarre

Controversy

Encore 3:

Segment/Medley:

When Doves Cry

Nasty Girl

Sign O’ The Times

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

Forever In My Life

Darling Nikki

Single Ladies

I Would Die 4 U

Altho last night’s show was a bit shorter, it was FULL of energy. The Forum was more full so that energy played a big part in the show’s success. I’m not even kidding you, I could see Prince perform night after night after night for weeks and not get tired. Tonight, I’m seeing my third Prince show of the week with my really good friends Emma and Josh (neither of which have seen Prince in concert before). I can’t wait … Prince spoke last night about how everyone HAD to come see him tonight so … I’m excited! Altho I’m still not feeling 100%, nothing is going to keep me from seeing Prince in concert as many times as possible ;)

It’s the weekend, y’all!! I hope you have a great one!! :D

How to Get Paid Gigs

It's difficult to describe just how influential the early rockabilly pioneers were on the musicians that came after them. These musicians were breaking brand new ground in the 1950's and making up the rules of rock and roll as they were going along. And although they've been all but forgotten by the majority of modern music fans--and even modern rock musicians--their influence simply cannot be denied.

January Jones' rise to stardom in Hollywood seems like a plot for a movie, even her name does not seem real. But she really was christened January Kristen Jones. The fact she was born on January 5th 1978 was just a coincidence, because she was actually named after a character in Jacqueline Susann's novel "Once is Not Enough" January Wayne.
